Pylon Gears (Pty) Ltd is jointly owned by Vamco Steel & Engineering (Pty) Ltd South Africa and L&H Industrial of Wyoming USA. Pylon acquired the business of Vamco Steel & Engineering in 2007.

The merger of the companies (2 locations) has increased our team of innovative, experienced and qualified people, backed up by a reliable workforce, machine tools and an internationally recognized quality assurance procedure, flexibility, increasing the speed of the global distribution system with a wealth of experience for the supply of open gears for all mechanical power transmission applications, winder gears, gear boxes and enhanced alternative replacement parts for shovels, drag lines & drill rigs.

Design of gears and power transmission solutions

Pylon has designed and manufactures their own range of power transmissions, THOR Gears, and designs customized transmission solutions to suit customer requirements.

Pylon’s THOR range of gearboxes has a power range from 200kW – 9000kW and have been design for a number of winder applications.

Enhanced design of replacement parts

Pylon analyses component failures and provides solutions that improve component life and equipment reliability

Pylon supplies improved swing pinions, swing systems, front idlers and drive systems for rope shovels.

Design of fabricated winder gears

Pylon designs and manufactures fabricated winder gears which have superior material properties to cast gears.
